A Discussion Session at ARWADEX 2024: Sustainability and Challenges in Sludge Management in Egypt

The third day of the ARWADEX 2024 Conference and Exhibition featured a significant discussion session titled “Applications of Sludge Usage in Egypt.” The session shed light on sustainable sludge management issues and resource utilization in line with Egypt’s future vision. It also addressed challenges related to public perception and the regulatory framework governing sludge usage.

The session was moderated by Dr. Rania Salah El-Din, Director of Specialized Engineering Consultations in Egypt, who welcomed the participants and outlined the key topics for discussion.

Participants included a group of experts:

Eng. Abdel Wahab Helmy, Project Manager of Yellow Mountain at the Water and Wastewater Construction Authority in Egypt, spoke about modern strategies for achieving sustainable sludge management.

Dr. Karl G. Leutschaf, CEO of M Consult GmbH from Germany, provided an international perspective on advanced sludge treatment technologies and their potential applications in Egypt.

Dr. Ahmed El-Nazamy from Egypt’s ASDC company discussed practical solutions to the challenges of sludge management, focusing on the utilization of available resources.

Dr. Tamer Sami, representing the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW) in Egypt, concluded the session by detailing the company’s efforts in developing infrastructure and improving the efficient use of sludge in national projects.

The session featured fruitful discussions among participants and attendees, exchanging ideas and experiences that contribute to achieving sustainable sludge management and enhancing its efficient use in developmental projects.
